Notes:

Chase’s Freedom credit card is a great card to have in your purse or wallet. Not only is it free to have (no annual fee!), you can get 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in purchases each quarter (that’s up to $300 per year for spending you are probably already doing!). In order to get the 5% back, you’ll need to active the bonus categories each quarter, but they send you an email and it is prominent on their website. If a purchase isn’t in that quarter’s category, or you do not activate the bonus, you’ll still receive 1% back on every purchase you make. And your rewards don’t expire as long as your account is open.

In addition to some great cash back options, the card provides a number of additional benefits, including:

  • Zero Liability Protection
  • Chip Enabled Security
  • Purchase Protection
  • Extended Warranty
  • Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver

You’ll need to read the fine print to figure out what value these items may have for you, but they come at no additional cost.

Overall, this is a easy way to pocket up to $180-$200: $150 for your sign up bonus, $25 for adding an authorized user, and $5 in 1% cash back for the $500 of spending (and that could be $25 if your spending is in the bonus category)! Remember to spend within your means and pay your bill in full each month. Interest charges and late fees will quickly eat away at your bonus money.
